20ft vs 40ft Container: Which Size Should You Buy?

A 40ft holds about twice as much as a 20ft but needs more room on site and costs more. Here's how to decide.

A 40ft costs 1.75 times as much as a 20ft for about twice the space, so it is cheaper per cubic metre. The 20ft can carry slightly more by weight.

Choose a 20ft if

  • You are storing tools and materials for a small-to-mid site.
  • Access is tight or the yard is small.
  • Volume is modest and you want the lowest price.

Choose a 40ft if

  • You need to store larger equipment or a bigger volume.
  • You are moving bulk loads.
  • You want the most space for the price.

For tall or stacked cargo, also consider the 40ft High Cube, which adds about 30 cm of height.

Check your site first

A 40ft needs a longer delivery truck and more clear space to position. Send us your location and access details and we'll advise before you commit.

Two 20ft units give you two separate lockable spaces, but cost more in total (AED 8,000 against AED 7,000 for used units).

If you need extra height for tall or stacked cargo, yes. A 40ft High Cube is AED 7,500 used, against AED 7,000 for a Standard.
